Mom on the Street: Maria Young

Posted by Lindsay Ferrier
on Apr 4, 2011 at 9:00 PM

Maria YoungOkay, my curvaceous friends, pay attention.

Maria Young, famed blogger of Immoral Matriarch (for now), is one of the most beautiful women I know.

Partly because, well, look at her. She's a classic beauty.

But also because she has AMAZING confidence.

Confidence enough, for example, to do two "don'ts" when dressing for an event at which lots of photos would be taken. (This particular event was at Nintendo headquarters, in honor of the new 3DS. In case you were wondering.)

She:

1. WORE HORIZONTAL STRIPES.

2. WORE A WAIST-CINCHING BELT.

The result? FABULOUS.

Meet Edurne

Posted by Lindsay Ferrier
on Feb 7, 2011 at 11:21 AM

Rebel AttitudeEdurne writes the style blog Rebel Attitude and now that I've found it, I'm completely hooked.

Even though Edurne lives in Spain, looks like a supermodel, and wears glamorous designer gear, I LOVE looking at photos of what she's wearing- because Edurne's style is totally accessible to the average woman.

Check out this outfit, for example. Plenty of us have a black vest, white tee, boyfriend jeans, a blazer and red heels, but who would have thought to put them all together and create this kind of magnificence?

Edurne. That's who.

Edurne's photos give me all kinds of ideas on what I could do with my own wardrobe. And on most days, I REALLY NEED SOME IDEAS. I just don't have time to come up with them on my own. So thank you, Edurne!

She has given me permission to show you some of my favorite looks from her blog. Click through to see them- and be sure to bookmark Edurne's blog. She's DEFINITELY still got it- and I suspect she always will...

A Uniform for Every Type of Mom

Posted by Amy Kuras

uniforms

Despite what popular culture would have you believe, the Catholic school uniform is not sexy. Take it from someone who spent the majority of her school years wearing one: droopy knee socks and baggy tops are much more the norm, and we'd be suspended if we wore our skirts that short.

They are, however, awesome: Imagine not having to concern yourself with what you're wearing five days a week. Shirt, skirt, socks, shoes: done, with no worrying about what goes with what or where the heck the belt that looks best with those pants has gotten to.

It's great for laundry too: instead of a huge variety of colors and fabrics, you're mostly concerned with just two or three.

So I say: let's bring back the uniform! Having a standard outfit you wear every day gives you one less thing to think about and simplifies shopping.

When Mommy Walked the Catwalk: My Rumpled to Runway Fashion Show Recap

Posted by Lindsay Ferrier
on Sep 10, 2010 at 3:50 PM

Rumpled to RunwayI promised you all a recap of my runway experience in New York earlier this week, complete with photos and video so that you can all laugh at me.

Well, here's the scoop.

For those of you just tuning in, I was asked along with eight other fashion bloggers to travel to New York during Fashion Week and participate in a fashion show sponsored by Electrolux and hosted by Kelly Ripa. It would all benefit the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.

As you can probably guess, it took me about 2.1 seconds to say YES!

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!

We were each given $150 to put together an all-white outfit with teal accessories (teal being the official color of ovarian cancer awareness). I realized I could play it safe with my choice -- or be a little daring.

Guess which option I chose?

Ashley's Perfect Transition-to-Fall Outift: Style on the Street

Posted by Lindsay Ferrier
on Sep 8, 2010 at 9:50 PM

FlickrWhen I saw Ashley Nelson from PR firm Weber Shandwick in this fantastic outfit yesterday, I couldn't stop looking at her, which was probably a little bit creepy.

But seriously, her outfit was that great! Don't you think?

I love the statement necklace with the chambray shirt. I love the skirt's pop of color. I love the neutral wedge sandals.

This is what I'd call a perfect transition-to-fall outfit! And I'm showing it to you because you can take an element or two and make the look your own.

Not happy with your legs? Wear a chambray shirt with a statement necklace and black or neutral pants.

Or find a skirt that better suits your figure in the same pretty coral color.

Want to score affordable versions of Ashley's look and find out where she got that AMAZING necklace? (I would have sworn was a very-expensive Falon for J.Crew necklace -- but it wasn't!)

More BlogHer Fashion: Now With a Real Housewife!

Posted by Lindsay Ferrier
on Aug 9, 2010 at 6:50 PM

Tamra BarneyFirst of all, let's just establish right now that I hate, hate, HATE this photo.

Yes, I'm hanging with Real Housewife Tamra Barney, but apparently, I'm twice her size.

TWICE. HER. SIZE.

The only reason I'm sharing this photo with you is that Tamra totally gave me a great posing idea for future pictures. Put your arm on your hip when you pose and POOF! Your arm is instantly slimmer!

But wait friends! I got to hang with another celeb at BlogHer that I was even more excited about meeting!

BlogHer 10: What They Wore

Posted by Lindsay Ferrier
on Aug 8, 2010 at 3:00 PM

Ree DrummondI spent this past week in New York City at the mother of all blog conferences: BlogHer.

And I have to admit I didn't go to a single conference session-- there were too many fashion and beauty events to attend (and too many great bloggers to meet, like Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond, pictured at your left). (And be sure to read the hilarious post she wrote about the shoes she's wearing.)

I've got lots of really interesting fall 2010 sneak peeks for you. But let's start things off with some of the best dressed BlogHers I spied while I was there. Each of these women have something about their look that's worth copying.

I snapped a picture of Ree Drummond because she has her own signature style that works really well for her. Ree generally wears a flowy tunic top with slim-fitting pants, boho earrings, and a cute pair of shoes. Finding a style that works for you and sticking with it is never a bad idea.

Mom on the Street: Meralis Hood

Posted by Lindsay Ferrier
on Jul 28, 2010 at 9:50 PM

Meralis HoodWhen I saw mom Meralis Hood at the uber-popular Monkey's Treehouse here in Nashville, I knew I had to take a photo.

She was so simply dressed and yet so on-trend. After a morning of seeing nothing but jeans and t-shirts, it was an awesome sight to behold.

"Oh, I look awful today, too!" she exclaimed when I asked to take her picture.

I wonder what she looks like on a GOOD day?!

Mostly, I'm shocked that Meralis has managed to take two trends I'm extremely iffy about -- rompers and tribal prints -- and rock the look. She wore a simple key pendant necklace, put her hair in a casual side ponytail, and finished off the look with a cute pair of leather flip-flops.

The effect: casual summer style that appears to be effortless.

What I didn't know when I spotted Meralis is that there's a very good reason she's so well dressed.

Want to know her secret?
