I have a weird-shaped body—long legs but short, squat torso—so it's hard to find a pair of jeans that fit perfectly on me. Usually, I have to hem them. I've always been intimidated about hemming denim myself...until now!
Cardigan Empire has a great post about how to hem jeans in three easy steps...
In a nutshell, here's how to do it:
- Try on the jeans with the shoes you will usually wear with them. Pin the cuff, and remove the jeans. Measure the length of the cuff; ignoring the hem; divide that measurement in half, and re-pin using the new measurement as the length of the new cuff.
- Sew the new cuff in place as close to the original hem as possible.
- Finish jeans by trimming off or tacking in place the little fold of extra jean on the inside of the pants.
See? Easy! And, it's even easier with a visual: Refer to the detailed photos of each step on Cardigan Empire!
