How to Hem Jeans in Three Steps

how to hem jeansI have a weird-shaped body—long legs but short, squat torso—so it's hard to find a pair of jeans that fit perfectly on me. Usually, I have to hem them. I've always been intimidated about hemming denim myself...until now!

Cardigan Empire has a great post about how to hem jeans in three easy steps...

In a nutshell, here's how to do it:

  1. Try on the jeans with the shoes you will usually wear with them. Pin the cuff, and remove the jeans. Measure the length of the cuff; ignoring the hem; divide that measurement in half, and re-pin using the new measurement as the length of the new cuff.
  2. Sew the new cuff in place as close to the original hem as possible.
  3. Finish jeans by trimming off or tacking in place the little fold of extra jean on the inside of the pants.

See? Easy! And, it's even easier with a visual: Refer to the detailed photos of each step on Cardigan Empire!
