We all have a skin care routine...right? I have problem skin, so I am very regimented about it. And I'm also trying to maintain a youthful look as long as I possibly can.
I've learned from dermatologists and aestheticians that there are four steps in caring for your skin.
But before you start the process, it's important to know what kind of skin you have. Is it dry, oily, combination, acne-prone, and/or sensitive? Identify this first so you know what kind of products to buy.
Now onto those four must-do skin care tips....
1. Cleanse. I wash my face morning and night and I follow each wash with a toner. Some love a toner, others don't feel they need it. That's up to you. But washing your face with a gentle cleanser in warm water is the first step to keeping your skin fresh and healthy.
2. Exfoliate. About once a week, your face could use some exfoliation to get rid of dead skin. You don't have to go to an expensive spa either. There are many inexpensive store-bought scrubs and peels that work really well to exfoliate -- and the key is to not get something too abrasive.
3. Moisturize. I've written about how moisturizer is important all year long and is beneficial for all skin types. Dehydrated skin cannot regenerate, and that is key in keeping your face looking youthful.
4. Use sun protection. You get wrinkles from sun damage...and you can get a lot worse, too. Protect your face (and body) with sunscreen. You can get a moisturizer with SPF and take care of both steps in one.
