Whether going to a beach or even a lakeside getaway, there are some essential clothing and accessories (besides my bathing suit) that I love to have with me.

Head scarf -- I don't have to fuss with my hair and it helps my hair stay in place if it's windy. How cute is this AE Bandana Head Scarf ($9.50) from American Eagle?

Wide-Brimmed Hat -- This is great to shield the sun from my face, also keeps the hair in check, and is great to cast just the right amount of shade over a book or magazine. Check out this Floppy Straw Hat ($24.50) from The Gap .

Flip Flops -- If I can't go barefoot, this is the next best thing. Love the colorful Flip Flops ($3.50) from Old Navy. Thanks for the flip flop tip, Cafe Kim!

Sunglasses -- I personally am a fan of big, make that huge, sunnies that look vintage. These Emmy Fade Sunglasses ($12.50) from Delia's are sweet.

Coverup -- This is the kind of thing I would wear everyday on the beach. Easy dressing and light on the body. Dotti Jersey Swim Cover-Up with Wood Detail ($46 seen at left) from Macy's is one that I would get a lot of wear out of.
