L'Oreal Elnett hairspray

Photo from Target

I've been hearing about L'Oreal's Elnett hairspray ($14 from Target) a lot lately. Lucky magazine wrote about it, Penelope Cruz is in the European commercial for it, and supposedly it's the best hairspray in the world. It holds well without being stiff and brushes out easily.

But did you know it was banned in the United States since 1987?

Apparently, it was forbidden because of the ozone damaging chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). But women (and hairstylists) who love it have smuggled it in to the States from Europe for years.

It's great to ban things that are bad for the environment, but I do think it's kind of funny how they went after hairspray and not something bigger, like say, the bus exhaust that blows black clouds all over NYC. But every little bit counts.

Well, Elnett is no longer contraband -- L'Oreal reconfigured the product and delivery so it's a more eco-friendly spray.

I haven't tried it yet, but am so curious.

Have you try Elnett? Is it the best hairspray ever?
