How to Clean Your Hair Brush

My hair brush is gnarly. It has a build up of product on it and it needs some serious attention. I never notice how gross it is until it's so full of hair that it's almost impossible to brush my locks. OK, I'll stop now. Yuck.

I don't have to buy a new one. It turns out I can clean my hair brush (or comb) with some items found in my cabinet and a splash of essential oil.

Real Simple magazine has some great ideas on using essential oils to clean things around the house in their April issue.

To clean combs and brushes all you need are:

  • 1 1/2 cups of water
  • 1/2 cup distilled white vinegar
  • 20 drops of tea tree, lavender, or eucalyptus oil

Here's how to:

  1. Remove all hair from brush or comb.
  2. Mix ingredients in container that will allow brush or comb to be submerged.
  3. Soak for 20 minutes.
  4. Rinse and air dry.

I'm trying this tonight...which reminds me it's about time I cleaned my makeup brush, too.

Oh and guess what else I read? Dab a little essential oil on the inside of your toilet paper roll and every time paper is used, the scent is released. Smart!
