Ugg Knock-Offs: As Good as Real Ugg Boots?

Ugg boot knockoffs vs. real Ugg boots. I have a dilemma.

I can't believe how cold it is here in Chicago—and it's not even October yet! This morning on my way out the door to walk the dog, I pulled on my 4-year-old Ugg boots, only to discover the gigantic rip down the seam from heel to mid-calf.

How did I miss that last winter?

So now I have a dilemma: Invest in a new pair of Uggs, or save money with a (much) cheaper knock-off version. I'm kinda liking the Sweater Boot from Payless (pictured here); and Target ($29.99) and Delia's also have knock-off versions that look like the real thing...

I detest spending so much money for a boot that looks hideous on me; still, I don't want to freeze. And here in Chicago, it's really easy to freeze!

I'm not the only one pondering such a question: The great Ugg debate was a topic of discussion recently among some CafeMoms—with some moms swearing by their knock-off versions, and others saying genuine Uggs were the only way to go.

What do you think? Do you wear Uggs (or a Ugg-like version of boot)? Which would you recommend?
