You can't deny that mermaids are having a moment. There are mermaid nails, mermaid hair, mermaid blankets, and more. But now there's a mermaid "dudeoir" photo shoot, and we've gotta say, this takes the mer-cake.

  • Technically, it's a calendar titled "Merb'ys," and features the bearded men from the Newfoundland and Labrador Beard & Moustache Club as mermen.

The club is Canadian-based, and open to anyone who is into facial hair and giving back to the community, founder Hasan Hai told BuzzFeed.

  • Going for $25, the calendar will donate proceeds to Spirit Horse NL, which uses horses to help those with mental health issues.

"They're desperately in need of funds and awareness because it's expensive to raise and upkeep horses," Hai told Buzzfeed. "I figured right away that this is a cause our club to get behind."

  • In case you were wondering, the word "Merb'ys" combines "mermaid" and "b'y," which is a local term for boy.

Now you're probably wondering, "Why mermaids?"

  • The idea struck Hai after his friend sent him a mermaid photo on his Facebook timeline over the summer, he tells CafeMom.

"I'm the kind of fellow who embraces challenges and fun and whimsical ways of fund-raising for good causes, so I embraced the life aquatic ... and dove in," he continues.

  • The photo shoot, which features the dudes posing on rocks, lying down on beaches, and also strumming guitars, is nothing short of whimsical.

Hai told BuzzFeed that it wasn't easy posing and moving around in a fishtail. "Behind the scenes, when the camera's not running, there's a lot of hopping involved -- and squirming," he said.

  • As amusing as the photos are, Hai wants the calendar to help break down the traditional idea of "masculinity."

"Men can be vulnerable, [and] can show emotion and affection," he tells CafeMom. "We can wear wild colors and hold hands. We can be all shapes and sizes, and there is no stigma in any of it!"

He hopes that the next time someone posts a meme about what real men supposedly are, people will know that "'real men' laugh at definitions and outdated gender stereotypes!"

  • The 2018 calendar has already sold over 300 copies, and there's been a major increase in sales.

So you might want to get yours while you can -- that is, if you're into mermaids, beards, and almsgiving. And who's not?
