Forget Vagina Nails -- People Are Trying to Make Vagina Fashion a Thing

NYFW? Try NSFW. (Sorry, we had to.) Vaginas and other lady parts were unapologetically on full display for the Namilia Spring 2018 New York Fashion Week show on Saturday night. Like most other fashion shows, the clothes were definitely daring, and kind of impractical -- but as a bonus, they were also totally empowering.

  • Models for the Berlin-based brand's show strutted down the runway in vulva-embellished clothing.

Think Marie Antoinette meets Lady Marmalade.

  • Founders Nan Li and Emilia Pfohl said the line was inspired by Denis Diderot's novel "The Indiscreet Jewels."

In the story, which dates back to 1748, a sultan is given a magic ring that can make a woman's "jewels," or, you know, her genitals, talk. He uses it to find out if his mistress is really cheating on him, according to Metro.

  • To say the vagina adornments were creative is an understatement.

There was a hoop skirt decorated with bejeweled vaginas and an outfit with sleeves that looked like vulvas.

  • Also present were nipple tassels, platform heels, and bondage-like thongs.

Disney songs, such as "Someday My Prince Will Come" from Snow White, played during the show. (You may never listen to Disney the same way again.)

  • The designers are known for using fashion as a platform for empowering women to break free of "gender rules."

"Fashion for me is more about the message rather than just the clothes, and I want to contribute to our society and time," Li told Sleek Mag in an interview.
