How to Get the Perfect 5-Minute Face, According to a Celebrity Makeup Artist

five minute face

It's easy to look flawless when you have your own personal glam squad attending to every errant pore, lash, and hair strand. Less so when it's just you, having an all-important debate of whether to skip your shower or breakfast just to get to work on time (#same).

But looking fresh-faced and fabulous is easier than you think, says celebrity makeup artist Joey Maalouf, who has worked with Khloe Kardashian, Rachel Zoe, Eva Mendes, and Diane von Furstenberg).

The most important thing to focus on if you're strapped for time? "Skin! It's the most important thing," he tells us. "When your skin looks great, it gives you confidence." Below, he outlines how to achieve that put-together look that's still super fresh.

Step 1: Mix your moisturizer and primer together, and apply to your face.

Genius, because it saves time. Make sure yours has an SPF in it to keep your skin protected from UVA and UVB rays.

Step 2: Add some definition with contouring.

Maalouf recommends his own ISH palette to contour ($32, at ISH Beauty). Sweep the contour shadow along your cheekbones, highlight slightly above your cheekbones, and add blush for a healthy, radiant glow.

Bonus points: Try a highlighter or illuminator for that lit-from-within, dewy look. "It used to be a spring and summer thing but now you can glow all year round!" Maalouf says. "It's fresh and gives a touch of youth, no matter what your age."

Step 3: Conceal.

Don't cake it on all over your face -- only use it to cover your under-eyes and any blemishes you may have.

Step 4: ... and don't forget the lips.

Add a balm for moisture, and if you're feeling fancy, try something tinted. And that's it -- you're done. Seriously.

So when it comes to your go-to look, it's easy does it. "You don't need to work as hard as you think," Maalouf says.
