What to Wear for Eco-Friendly Style

sustainable fashion

Every year I try to make a few changes to make my life greener. This year, I canceled all my retail catalogs and bought a glass water bottle and some glass Pyrex containers to store leftovers. But what about fashion? Aside from the clothing I'd see while shopping at Whole Foods, I wasn’t familiar with many eco-fashion brands. I thought I would only find clothes that felt "hippie" and "granola." But I was wrong! And I am very happy to share that you do not have to sacrifice style to preserve the environment.

There are many eco-friendly fashion brands out there, and I’d like to introduce you to a few of them.

For this week's style cheat sheet in honor of Earth Day, I’ve created one budget-friendly, eco-fashion casual outfit and one splurge-worthy, eco-fashion office outfit.

Eco-Friendly Casual Style -- Budget Friendly

Online retailer ASOS has a tab dedicated to sustainable fashion. I love this darling summer dress made of reclaimed fabric with two of my favorite design elements -- a bold print and an open back! Pair the dress with these on-trend vegan leather gladiator sandals, and for your personal items, we've got a mini canvas bucket bag made of postconsumer plastic and cotton canvas. Seriously?! What about these cute sunglasses made of 100 percent recycled fishing net? And a glass water bottle will be your new favorite accessory for keeping hydrated as you do your part to preserve Mother Earth.

Eco-Friendly Office Style -- Splurge Worthy

Have you met the brand Cuyana? If not, it’s really worth the look. Their tag line is "Fewer, Better Things." How beautiful, right? The brand has a Lean Closet program where they send you a reusable bag to fill with clothing you’d like to donate. They pass the clothes on to women in need and, in return, give you a $10 credit. The Cuyana white gathered silk blouse is perfect for your eco-fashion office look -- and because I love this brand so much, I also chose their oversized tote bag. Trusted brand Levi’s created a way to make jeans using less water, and their classic 505 straight leg cut is perfect for the office. For your shoes, I found ballet flats by Reneu that are made with "eco-friendly upper materials such as hemp, recycled polyester, eco-friendly ultra suede, and other earth-friendly, vegan materials." And for our accessory, we have a statement necklace by 31 Bits that's made of recycled paper and handmade in Uganda.
