7 Easy Steps to an Elegant Braided Bun

Bridal Braided Bun, Lela Rose show

With wedding season fast approaching, it was an honor to get a peek at some of this season's "it" trends at the recent Lela Rose Bridal show. When it comes to beautifying for the big day -- from hair and nails to makeup -- all the stylists at the show had one tip in common: Keep it simple. Here's a closer look at how to get the one particular bridal do (pun intended).

According to Jennifer Yepez, hair stylist on the scene, braids are all the rage this season, both for the red carpet as well as for the big walk down the aisle. While this braided updo definitely has a Hollywood finish, it's manageable enough for you to DIY, as every step of the process is simple enough for brides on the go.

And for those with hair that may not be long or thick enough to execute the style alone, not to worry: Yepez says clip-in extensions will give you natural results, ladies.

Don't believe us? Give it a try with tips from Yepez herself:

  1. Prep the hair using texturizing salt spray and foaming volumizer, applying from root to end.
  2. Rough dry the hair and spray tousled texture finishing spray for added texture.
  3. Part hair down the middle, and separate into three sections with two in the front and one behind the head.
  4. Take one section on the side of the head, and braid all the way down. Secure with an elastic and repeat on the opposite side.
  5. Next, take the loose section of hair in the back and separate it into two braids. Twist them into each other creating a loose bun. Secure with bobby pins.
  6. Take the two braids from the front of the head, and bring them backwards crossing them over each other at the back of the head. Once crossed, wrap them around the braided bun and secure with a bobby pin.
  7. Finish the look with flex hold shaping spray to secure the hair and tame any flyaways.
