What to Wear on a Romantic Date

what to wear romantic date

Remember before you had kids when going on a date was no big deal? You decided last-minute to go to dinner and a movie and that was it. Well now as busy parents, life has changed! And setting up a date night takes a lot more work: making reservations, finding a babysitter, and coordinating schedules with other couples. So when all the stars align and an opportunity comes up to go out on a romantic date, get dressed up!

If you’ve been wanting to give over-the-knee boots a try, this is the perfect occasion. They're sexy, trendy, and fun -- a romantic date night is the perfect time to bring out these tall boots. I love the over-the-knee style with a flirty peasant dress/tunic because the volume of the dress creates balance in your outfit. Adding some simple accessories like a gold cuff and statement ring will add just the right finishing touches. And for your date-night essentials like your phone and lipstick, a classic quilted crossbody bag will do the trick. Now kiss those kids good-bye, leave all the important details with the babysitter, and enjoy the evening out with your honey!

Romantic Date -- Budget Friendly

Our budget-friendly outfit starts with a peonies-printed tunic dress from Anthropologie. (If you’re under 5’4” like I am, it also comes in petite sizes.) The length of the tunic is an important detail because it has to be short enough to work with the high boots, but not too short that it looks inappropriate. So be sure to pay attention to how the tunic and boots work together. The over-the-knee boots by Steve Madden are "Gorgeous" in an unexpected and go-with-everything taupe color. The burnt orange dress perfectly complements the boots and green crossbody bag. Gold accessories finish it off with a simple cuff bracelet -- one of my all-time favorite accessories -- and a sleek statement ring by Bauble Bar.

Romantic Date -- Splurge Worthy

The watercolor-printed peasant dress by BCBG looks so dreamy and comfortable, and the colors are vibrant! I’ve paired the dress with black suede over-the-knee boots to give the outfit some warmth and texture. A black crossbody bag with light gold hardware grounds the outfit with another black piece. The gold cuff bracelet by Kenneth Jay Lane is worth the splurge because it is an easy accessory to wear and it goes with everything. Our final detail is a cross band ring by Elizabeth and James that is both delicate and a statement all at once.
