Cool Nude Nail Art Makes French Manicures Look So Old-School (PHOTOS)

nude manicureAn emerging nail trend is the nude manicure: It starts with only a shiny clear base coat and is topped off with a bold design. This trendy nude mani was seen on the models at Stella McCartney's show.

Sally Hansen Global Color Ambassador Madeline Poole created this chic look using Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Au Nature-al and Pat on the Black, which is a black-plum color. We could also see it looking amazing with a dark gray -- love OPI Classic Shades Nail Lacquer in Suzi Skis In the Pyrenees.

Here's how you can achieve this nude mani.

Step 1: Use two coats of clear coat or clear base coat on clean nails.

Step 2: Make three dots with the color of your choice so it's a guide to make a moon shape -- a center top-of-the-curve dot, and one dot on either side on the nail where the curve will end and hit the cuticle. Connect those dots to form an arch.

Step 3: Fill in the area with your color and continue for each nail.

Step 3: Create guideline points close to the bottom corner of the nail and another at the top corner of your nail. Use this to connect the diagonal line shape.

Step 4: Repeat this step a few millimeters above the original line with another diagonal stripe using the same color. Of course, if you are feeling bold, go with a different color.

Step 5: Continue on the remaining nails until the hand is finished. Once dry, just top with a finishing clear coat.

It's like the anti–French manicure -- a little rebellious and super cool.
