What to Wear to a School Fund-Raiser (PHOTOS)

what to wear school fundraiserFor this week's style cheat sheet, we're heading to a school fund-raiser. If you're unsure how dressy your peers will be, the LBD -- Little Black Dress -- is always a perfect option. Don't have one in your wardrobe? You definitely need one! This workhorse wardrobe staple can bail you out of many sticky style situations. Dress it up for an evening cocktail party with a gold statement necklace or throw on a blazer for the office.

I've created two similar outfits -- one that's more budget friendly and one that's splurgier. Feel free to mix and match the pieces to create your perfect look.

Our outfit starts with a black fit-and-flare dress, which is a flattering shape on every body type. The silhouette is fitted through the body and flares at the hips. Red suede pumps make the outfit anything but boring! An animal-print clutch adds some print and texture, and we're using a gold statement necklace as our key accessory. Now that the weather is cooling down, let's throw on a luxurious black wrap coat to finish our look. You'll be ready to head out to your fund-raiser and raise money for the kids' school while looking chic and stylish!

School Fund-Raiser, Budget Friendly:
Our budget-friendly outfit starts with a stretch fit-and-flare dress by Marc New York. This is a dress you'll turn to again and again. It's the perfect Little Black Dress, and the stretch fabric means comfort for every occasion. Adding a pair of red suede pumps by Sole Society with thick straps keeps your outfit interesting and adds a pop of color. The Bauble Bar Arc Bib is a beautiful statement necklace and can also be worn with a white T-shirt and jeans on your casual days. The Haircalf Large Pouch Clutch by Banana Republic adds a fun animal print and is the perfect handbag option for this school fund-raiser look. Finish the outfit with a Tahari Wool Blend Wrap Coat that is sophisticated and luxurious.

School Fund-Raiser, Splurge Worthy:
If you've been searching for the perfect LBD, look no further. This style by Diane von Furstenberg is not only a fit-and-flare that flatters every body type, but it also has strategically placed ruching. You'll love the construction of this dress when you put it on! The chunky heel on these red suede pumps by Kate Spade means you'll add a pop of color to your outfit while keeping on trend. The gold bib necklace by Dannijo is a stunner -- it almost looks like a piece of artwork -- and it is the perfect accessory for this fund-raising night outfit. A rich, snakeskin clutch by Zagliani is the perfect bag to carry for a night out and can be used for all of your evening occasions. Finish off the outfit with a black wrap coat by one of my favorite designers, Trina Turk.
