Melissa McCarthy Shares Heartbreaking Motivation Behind New Clothing Line

melissa McCarthy fashionAs moms, our own style often takes a backseat to making our adorable children look even cuter. Or, maybe we're too busy or have simply lost interest in dressing anything but quickly and comfortably. Well, beloved actress Melissa McCarthy is determined that her new clothing line, Seven7, will help moms reignite their passion for fashion.


The Spy star recently spoke with People and explained her motivation for starting her own line, which is available at Nordstrom, Lane Bryant, and HSN as well as other stores:

I've been every size under the rainbow, and my sense of style never left me, but my options did. I created a fashion line that is for all sizes.

The funny lady we first fell in love with on Gilmore Girls has truly "walked the walk" and knows what she's talking about. She's a star with access to clothing options your average gal can only dream about, so to hear her say that getting dressed became "a chore" and a daily reminder of her imperfections is really sad and eye-opening.

In addition to feeling excited about what they're wearing, McCarthy also wants women to be able to remain true to their own sense of style:

You should be able to wake up and say, 'I am wearing weird boots and leopard pants and a ripped-up T-shirt and a leather jacket and a big bow in my hair. I'm a mom with two kids – and I wear leather pants and cheetah-print and all kinds of crazy stuff.

We love that! It's so true -- don't you always admire the mom at pick-up who has the funky boots or super-cool accessories and doesn't look just like everyone else? It's so easy to slip into your "mom uniform" and even though you might not look or feel your best, some days it seems like you don't have any other choices.

We really admire the Ghostbusters actress for wanting to make fashion fun again -- not just for herself but for all women. It sort of reminds us of that inspiring quote from author Toni Morrison: "If there's a book that you want to read, but it hasn't been written yet, then you must write it." 

McCarthy wanted clothing that made her feel good about herself again, so she created it. Awesome!
