Model With Down Syndrome Will Take Fashion Week by Storm (PHOTOS)

Madeline StuartAustralian model Madeline Stuart, who has Down syndrome, is preparing to hit the catwalk at New York Fashion Week! But for the 18-year-old and her family, this invitation goes well beyond fashion and advancing a career. It's about inclusion.

Her mom, Rosanne, believes her daughter's opportunity to walk with MODA in association with the Christopher Reeve Foundation in what can only be considered a model's dream come true is a chance to change the world for the better. She explains:

The thing I'd like people to take away from this is to not discriminate. Don't judge a book by its cover. I would just like people to accept, love, and show kindness. That's all this is about for us. The modeling is fun and everything, but it's just a vehicle to get the message out.

Earlier this year, American Horror Story actress Jamie Brewer, who also has Down syndrome, hit the runaway as part of designer Carrie Hammer's "Role Models Not Runway Models," a campaign that featured real women instead of random runway models with size-0 shapes.

Stuart's mom hopes that including her daughter -- and those who don't fit the traditional model mold -- might mean inclusion on a much larger scale. She notes:

This is about showing the world how easy it is to talk to someone with an intellectual disability, how easy it is to walk up to someone and make them realize they're the same!

We're sure Stuart is going to kill it on the catwalk as she's done in the past!

Her career as already led to her meeting some pretty interesting people, including Paula Abdul.
