Lupita N'yong'o's Pearl Oscars Gown Was Stolen by Some Delusional Thief

lupita Nyong'o oscars Say what you will about just how snoozefesty the Oscars may have been this year -- the red carpet was positively brimming with absolutely beautiful gowns. And one of the most devastatingly gorgeous, unforgettable dresses was, of course, Lupita Nyong'o's custom Calvin Klein Collection gown, which was made of over 6,000 pearls, which we could only assume will go down in fashion history and end up in a museum someday, right? Welp, probably not now, because Lupita's Oscars gown has been STOLEN.

That's right! The gown -- valued at $150K and designed over the course of a few months by Francisco Costa in collaboration with Lupita -- was reportedly stolen from the 12 Years a Slave actress's room at The London Hotel in West Hollywood, according to E! News. The site says they were told detectives from the LAPD are currently investigating the theft by reviewing security surveillance video and interviewing staff and other witnesses in order to catch the burglar.

In the wake of the theft, The London Hotel released the following statement: "This is a terribly unfortunate situation, and we are working with law enforcement on their investigation."

Terribly unfortunate and totally nutso! Stealing something kinda generic, like a diamond tennis bracelet or even a pair of Louboutins -- sure, makes sense. But stealing a gown like this that's one of a kind? What's the thief going to do -- wear it out?! Hang it in his closet to fawn over on occasion? Get it tailored to fit him? Ha! Good luck with any of that.

But seriously, fingers crossed the LAPD gets to the bottom of this couture caper. Because clearly, this isn't just any ol' gown that was stolen! It's a work of art.

What do you think the thief had in mind when stealing Lupita's gown?
