We've lost an important and legendary fashion icon. Oscar de la Renta is dead at age 82, after a long battle with gastric cancer. The designer, who was born in the Dominican Republic, began his life journey wanting to become a painter and then -- lucky for us -- found his true calling by creating sartorial masterpieces.

Over the years, he has dressed some of the most glamorous, gorgeous celebrities of all time, including Sarah Jessica Parker, Jessica Simpson, Penelope Cruz, and Jennifer Lawrence, but was also a favorite of powerful female political figures like Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama.

And, of course, just weeks before he died, he made Amal Alamuddin one of the most beautiful brides EVER by outfitting her in a romantic Chantilly lace creation.

In honor of one of the most prolific designers in recent history, here are 10 celebrities who looked positively stunning wearing Oscar de la Renta designs.

When Jessica Simpson accepted the "Fashion Icon" award at the 2005 Ace Awards Gala, Oscar de la Renta was right by her side to support her -- and dress her in a beautiful and flirty green dress that showed off her famous curves.

Jessica Alba was a vision at the 70th Annual Golden Globes in her peach gown, which made her glow and look every inch the movie star.

  • Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence showed the world she was a force to be reckoned with at the 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. Her fuchsia gown, with its racy split-to-the-thigh slit, was unlike any other on the red carpet.

  • Tina Fey

Tina Fey almost always opts for black gowns on the red carpet -- and looks stunning in them. But she trusted Oscar de la Renta, who sent her to the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards wearing this dramatic burgundy number, which made her look like an Old Hollywood goddess.

  • Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift made a grand entrance at the 2012 Ripple of Hope gala wearing this age-appropriate yet stunningly glam gold and cream party dress. Oscar was the star's favorite designer and she was one of the first to offer her condolences when she learned that he had passed away.

  • Sarah Jessica Parker

It doesn't get any more Oscar de la Renta than this: Sarah Jessica Parker's amazing dress, which she famously wore to the "Charlie James: Beyond Fashion" exhibit at the Costume Institute Gala. It featured the designer's name on its train and left no doubt in anyone's mind that the real-life Carrie is a huge Oscar de la Renta fan.

  • Penelope Cruz

Oscar knew just how to play up Penelope Cruz's exotic looks -- he dressed her in a va-va-va-voom, slinky black dress for the "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty" exhibit at the Costume Institute Gala.

  • Emma Watson

Emma Watson went from cute child actress to strong female lead in one dress -- thanks to this off-the-charts dramatic Oscar de la Renta tulle ballgown she wore to attend the world premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2.

  • Lea Michele

The world was used to seeing Glee's Lea Michele dressed in casual garb until she rocked this super-feminine ruffled pink satin gown at a 68th Annual Golden Globes Awards after-party. She looks pretty, soft, and angelic.

  • Amal Alamuddin

Amal Alamuddin could have chosen anyone to design her wedding gown when she married George Clooney in Venice. But the attorney -- who referred to Oscar as a "gentleman" -- said she and her husband wanted a romantic and elegant ceremony and that Oscar de la Renta was the only designer she could imagine capturing that mood perfectly in her dress design. Smart move, Amal.
