Last night's 2014 Emmy Awards did not disappoint -- at least on the red carpet. We saw a dazzling array of gowns both stunningly beautiful and stunningly awful. Lena Dunham, thank you! Where to even begin? I wish we could spend the whole day dishing over all the looks.

It was challenging, but we pulled together the top 10 best and worst looks of the Emmys red carpet. Are your favorites on this list?

  • Best: Kerry Washington

Kerry Washington nailed it (of course) in this crystal-embellished orange gown by Prada. It's so perfect, with its clean lines, teensy bit of exuberance, and flattering color, I could just about scream.

  • Worst: Michelle Dockery

We love Michelle Dockery but this gown by Rosie Assoulin almost makes her look like the color guard in a marching band. Twirl those flags, Dockery!

  • Best: Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting

We loved Kaley Cuoco's frothy, flirty Monique Lhuillier gown. It goes perfectly with her pixie cut, don't you think?

  • Worst: Sarah Paulson

I confess, I kind of love American Horror Story star Sarah Paulson's insane Armani Privé dress. But it does look like she's being engulfed by a dark cloud of the measles.

  • Best: Julia Roberts

Julia Roberts' Elie Saab Couture dress was a surprise. In navy blue with heavy beading, it could have dragged her down, but that short, flouncy skirt and deep neckline kept it youthful and fun -- not to mention gave us all a great view of those gams.

  • Worst: Sarah Silverman

Sarah Silverman is as gorgeous as she is funny, so we wish she would have worn a more vibrant color. This goth forest green dress by Marni seemed to drain her, but at least it matched the pot she claimed to be smoking through her vape pen.

  • Best: Heidi Klum

Heidi Klum was unexpectedly demure this year in her coral Zac Posen gown. Posen told People magazine, "I thought it would be interesting to have a 'Heidi-the-person' moment on the carpet, rather than putting the emphasis on 'Heidi-the-Body.' This look is sexy without showing too much."

  • Worst: Mayim Bialik

Image via Kiley Bishop / Splash News

SIGH. Mayim Bialik told ABC News, "I famously dress modestly and so yeah, I don't wear strapless or sleeveless [gowns] ... I like long, traditional gowns." But being modest doesn't have to translate into dressing like a 70-year-old matron! Not loving this mumsy Oliver Tolentino gown.

  • Best: Melissa McCarthy

Image via Kiley Bishop / Splash News

Mike & Molly star Melissa McCarthy has complained about designers being unwilling to dress her for the red carpet. But last night she shone in this figure-flattering custom Marchesa gown.

  • Worst: Lena Dunham

You've got to admire Lena Dunham's outright refusal to play the Hollywood glamour game by wearing this four-layer ombre cake dress by Giambattista Valli. Bless her heart!
