There are things in life that simply defy nature. Amazing bird migration patterns, for example. Or the fact that Kelly Ripa, at age 43 and after giving birth to three children, has zero cellulite, abs of steel, and can fit into the tiniest bikini ever seen without even trying. Candid photos of the Live! With Kelly and Michael co-host hanging out in a teal bikini in Mexico popped up everywhere today and, naturally, many were eager to either bash or praise her for her svelte and toned physique. But before you roll your eyes and chalk this up to yet another opportunity for people to unleash their fat/skinny shaming ways on the universe, consider the fact that there is a positive aspect to this photo. Kelly's frame may be petite, but she is healthy. And when you hear about the insane measures she takes to get this body, you might agree she deserves it.
According to reports, Kelly doesn't starve herself. She is very knowledgeable about nutrition and eats throughout the day, but in moderation. Now, get this: while I sit here complaining about finding 30 free minutes in a day to exercise, this mom, wife, brand ambassador, and, oh yeah, television host who probably has to wake up at 3 a.m. -- works out four to five days per week for 90 minutes per session. She combines cardio with techniques like barre, yoga, and spinning.
Obviously, whatever she is doing is working because the woman isn't just skinny, which doesn't automatically mean healthy, she's positively ripped!
Personally, I've never been a huge fan of rippling ab muscles on women. But this thought makes me feel shallow because, at the end of the day, fitness isn't just about how you look. I can't imagine how strong Kelly must be. I'm betting she can move heavy furniture around her house with no help. Photos like these are empowering and inspiring, in my opinion, and I tip my hat to Kelly for working hard to look and feel amazing.
