4 People’s Choice Awards Looks We Loved & 4 We Wish We Could Forget (PHOTOS)

There was no shortage of interesting looks at last night's People's Choice Awards. A more casual affair than the Oscars, this fun awards show gives stars an opportunity to relax a bit and show off their personal laidback-formal style (in other words, long trains are totally optional here).

As always, some celebs positively shined and played up their best features, while others fell flat or failed to inspire us. Here are 8 of the best and worst looks from last night's event.

  • Best: Jessica Alba

A white strapless dress in the middle of winter? Yes, please! Jessica Alba rocked her Jason Wu dress, which fit her body like a glove, but looked totally ladylike too, thanks to its modest below-the-knee hemline. The side corset detail and front zipper are hot and she was smart to keep her hair and makeup natural and uncomplicated.

  • Best: Jennifer Hudson

Another white-hot star, Jennifer Hudson also chose a figure-conscious bodycon dress, but hers is totally special and different thanks to long sleeves, a tummy-flattering front drape, and futuristic silver accessories.

  • Best: Nina Dobrev

Nina Dobrev took a major risk with this sparkly Jenny Packham dress, which featured long sleeves, a high neckline, and sequins. But instead of looking matronly, she looked absolutely stunning -- in part because she kept her makeup young and fresh and didn't over-accessorize. Stunning!

  • Best: Britney Spears

Britney Spears gets major points for choosing a feminine and soft look for this event. Her dress shows off her toned legs and healthy body, and the beautiful silver-black lace embellishment gives her a super-pretty, ethereal look.

  • Worst: Sandra Bullock

Was Sandra Bullock dropping by the awards show on her way to a baby shower? Her asymmetrical green, navy, and white floral dress is pretty, but far too casual for a show in which she was slated to be one of the biggest stars in attendance.

  • Worst: Heidi Klum

It's shocking that a supermodel and fashionista like Heidi Klum isn't aware of the fact that this Armani dress doesn't suit an event like the People's Choice Awards. It has glitter, a plunging neckline, an interesting neck details -- and she's wearing showy chandelier earrings with it. It's just ... too ... much.

  • Worst: Lucy Hale

The Pretty Little Liars actress chose a one-shoulder, psychedelic print that was just too busy for her petite frame. The print and cut overwhelmed her figure and took away from her obvious beauty.

  • Worst: Sarah Michelle Gellar

Sarah Michelle took home her first People's Choice award for fave actress in a new TV series, but she didn't hit it out of the park with her choice of dress. There was no excuse to put a usually fresh-faced star of only 36 in this dumpy, shapeless bridesmaid dress and then top it off with extremely spooky, heavy eye makeup. Sarah Michelle deserves better than this.
