A few weeks ago, I had plans to meet a good friend in the city on Sunday afternoon for drinks and an early dinner. I was super excited because I don't get to see her very often (she lives in Florida and I'm outside of NYC). Plus, while I love escaping the 'burbs and going into Manhattan, I'm usually there during the day (for work), or with my husband and daughter (for fun). So this was a rare adventure -- heading into the city alone on a school night!
And as I was getting ready, I realized something ...
I felt just about as excited as I've ever felt getting ready for an actual date (back in the days before I got married)! Except, of course, there was none of the nervousness -- just the fun.
It kind of makes sense though, if you think about it. Other women are probably the ones who, the vast majority of the time, notice things like our new shoes, or manicure, or pretty eye makeup. Right? And going on a girls' night out is such a fun, necessary activity. I took my time picking out an outfit and did my hair and makeup with much glee, just enjoying the primping and knowing it would all be appreciated by my friend, who is something of a fashionista herself. Of course, she would love me just as much if I showed up in sweats and sneakers! But that's the point -- a night out with a BFF or a group of girls is all about the fun, and NONE of the pressure.
Here are a few of the products I had fun getting ready with the other night -- all of which I recommended to my friend (after admiring her new necklace and how long her hair has gotten!):
Too Faced Lip Injection Color Bomb! Moisture Plumping Lip Tint
I love this stuff! My "bee sting" color came as part of the SUPREMELY AWSOME Too Faced "A Few of My Favorite Things" kit, but you can buy the plumping Lip Tints separately too. They really work, either alone or layered under a gloss! ($21, Sephora)
PROBABLY the only other person who will be as excited about your sparkly blue nail polish is your BFF, right? Maybelline Colorshow PolkaDots Nail Lacquer in "Blue Marks the Spot" ($3.99, drugstores)
Speaking of blue ... remember your blue mascara in seventh grade. it's back! And it's SO FUN! Butter London WINK Mascara in "Inky Six." ($20, ButterLondon.com)
Do you enjoy getting ready for a girls' night out?
