Well before she even took her vows and became the Duchess of Cambridge, the world has been looking to Kate Middleton for style tips and trend cues. But now more than ever, it's safe to say she's a style icon! Is it possible to put our finger on the one secret to her rich sartorial elegance?
Alice Temperley -- who you may recognize as the designer behind Temperley London and Kelly Clarkson's wedding dress -- is referred to as Catherine's fashion "designer of choice." While she "prides herself on keeping shtoom about her clientele and won’t say much" about Kate, Temperley did recently describes the Duchess and her sister Pippa (also her client) as “lovely girls" to The Telegraph. She also shed light on what makes the Duchess "a brilliant ambassador for British fashion" -- not to mention a polished paragon women all over the world want to emulate ...
She’s very graceful, gracious and she’s a brilliant ambassador for British fashion. She mixes up designer and high street; the perfect modern-day woman.
YES! She hits the nail on the head! Kate has a unique, appealing ability to mix and match affordable, mainstream pieces and the higher-end couture that's usually reserved for the rich, famous, or royal. More often than not, we can pull out a piece from any of her outfits that's pretty easy to acquire. See: The sparkly, $35 Zara necklace she paired with a couture gown at the Royal Film Performance last week, which sold out superfast -- or the $127 Mint Velvet shoes she wore on a casual shopping trip. Even when she does wear something super designer -- like the Issa dress she wore at the announcement of her engagement to Prince William -- it's often a feminine, down-to-earth style (like a wrap dress) we can easily replicate.

It's a trick Michelle Obama has perfected, as well! A trick that makes both the FLOTUS and the Duchess equal parts glamorous and accessible. Really, it's no wonder Kate's on such a roll setting trends and selling out accessories and dresses in a matter of minutes. Her look is truly, easily aspirational.
What do you love about the Duchess' sense of style?
