  • A luxe bag.

Updating your bag is one of the easiest and least stressful ways to put a new spin on your look. The sky's the limit as far as how much you CAN spend on a new bag, but blowing a mortgage payment isn't necessary. Scope out places like Marshalls and T.J. Maxx for scores like this glam designer handbag. ($39.99, available at Marshalls)

  • Denim with an edge.

I really don't have many occasions (any?) for a full-on pair of leather pants (real or faux!), but a stylish mom can definitely pull off denim trimmed with leather. These can be expensive, but hunt around for deals like pair of BLANKNYC skinny jeans with "vegan" leather trim. (On sale for $59 at RevolveClothing.com)

  • Ye olde statement necklace.

It's kind of a cliche, this concept of a statement necklace, but that's because they really do the trick! Add a big, beautiful necklace to even the plainest of t-shirts, and you've amped up your chic factor a ton. It's totally doable to find them for under $50, like this Tinley Road Green Fringe Bib Necklace. ($42 at Piperlime.Gap.com)

  • Comfy but cute booties.

Booties rock. I love tall boots too, but booties are a little more versatile, and work on those warmer fall days when you don't want to wear sandals or flats. Shown here is the "Addison" ankle bootie; check out 9 more super cute fall booties. ($69.95 at SoleSociety.com)

  • A faux leather jacket.

Mysteriously, faux leather jackets can be just as expensive as the real thing! Luckily, there are many bargains to be had, though it's important to scope them out to make sure they don't look too cheap. I love this Jones New York long-sleeved, quilted jacket because it looks luxe and a little edgy, but fact that it's a cardigan-jacket combo makes it more wearable for me. I'm going to wait for it to go on sale! ($139 at Macys.com)
