While her younger sister was holed up with baby North West, Kourtney Kardashian enjoyed what looks like a lovely beach day over the weekend with her two adorable children, Mason and Penelope. Mason frolicked in the ocean while wearing a tiny swimsuit. Penelope relaxed in the shade in an elaborate floral headpiece. It looked like one of those days you just don't want to end. But the most adorable aspect of the outing was Kourtney and her ridiculously cute beach outfit. Mama looked hot. And let's be honest, that's no easy feat when there's sand and a blazing hot sun involved. In fact, I, too, went to the beach over the weekend, and my attempt at being stylish wound up looking more like sweaty raccoon. It was awesome.
So how did Kourtney do it?
Money. Just kidding. Kind of. I mean, money does make looking good much easier than no money, but looking good at the beach can be done, budget-style. Here are a few tips:
1. Try tube mascara instead of waterproof. I learned the hard way over the weekend that "waterproof" doesn't always mean "sweat-proof". Tube mascara, on the other hand, basically requires a chisel to get off. So try that instead. You'll be able to spend hours baking in the sun or swimming in the ocean and there will be nary a black runny line in sight.
2. Invest in a cute neutral swimsuit coverup. Sure, Target has a million and one cute beach coverups, but it's okay to spend more than $15 on one. After all, you'll probably live in it this summer. Find a coverup you really love, and go for it. But word to the wise: Neutral, solid coverups wind up looking most chic. I mean, look at Kourtney.
3. Defrizz your hair. If you're one of those women who has naturally frizz-free hair, you can skip this tip. Also, I hate you. For the rest of us, we need to seriously defrizz before going to the beach. Water = humidity. Humidity = frizz. If you want to look beach chic, try smoothing a few drops of Frizz Ease into damp hair before heading out the door. No need to blow dry and flat iron, as your hair will probably wind up getting wet, but a little smoothing can go a long way when you're spending the day at the beach.
And have fun! That's the chicest look of all.
