Gwyneth Paltrow Reveals Her Biggest 'Wardrobe Malfunction' When She Didn't Wear a Bra

gwyneth paltrow oscars 2002Newsflash! Gwyneth Paltrow admits she isn't perfect, acknowledges fashion faux pas! Shocking, but true. Just days after the Oscars, Gwyneth discussed the infamous see-through goth gown she wore 11 years ago. You remember the one? Black, totally sheer top with no bra, long, heavy black skirt, baffling braided hairdo. Gwyneth doesn't make fashion missteps very often, but when she does... wowza! She goes all the way.

Well, I guess she's finally ready to talk about it -- on the virtual pages of Goop, of course. This week's issue is all about fashion, and she interviews some of her favorite tastemakers (including herself). But the best part, of course, is where she talks about that dress.

GP says:

There were a few issues; I still love the dress itself but I should have worn a bra and I should have just had simple beachy hair and less makeup. Then, it would have worked as I wanted it to - a little bit of punk at the Oscars.

"I should have worn a bra..." Ah, famous last words. Yeah Gwyn, think you should have worn a bra? So do we all. I mean, even Brandi Glanville's naked dress drew the line at nipples, even if we did see pretty much everything else. I think maybe she thought it would work because she's little and has pale nipples. (Am I really typing out these words? Oh God, I really am...) But it was just so wrong. As a fellow small-busted lady, there is NOTHING wrong with small boobies. But we do have to put them in their best light. Or position. Or something.

Anyway, yeah, the hair was unflattering and the eye makeup screamed angry teenager. Remember, this is the year after she'd won an Oscar in a super-sweet pink dress, so I think she was just trying to go to the opposite extreme. Mission accomplished, Paltrow!

I think it's great that she can look back and laugh at her style FAIL. Obviously she's recovered and has had a nearly flawless record ever since. And yes, I did choose this photograph because of the Mike from Monsters, Inc. photobomb.

Do you agree with Gwyneth's assessment of her infamous 2002 Oscars goth gown?
