While, overall, I actually felt like it was a sort of boring night on the red carpet, there were some stand-out gowns that surprised, shocked, and stunned.

Among 'em: Jennifer Lopez's leggy number and Katy Perry's "boob window" seafoam green concoction. But they weren't the only ones who were sure to enrage/enthrall the fashion police. Here, the best and worst looks of the night ...

While the projector-screen silver ballgown she wore during her performance of "Blown Away/Two Black Cadillacs" is getting more buzz today, Carrie Underwood's off-stage dress was the real showstopper and will definitely earns her a spot on the best-dressed list. The glittery gorgeous necklace is Johnathon Arndt and is worth $31 million (OMG!), and the mermaid gown, which Carrie called "classic and glam," was Roberto Cavalli.

  • Alicia Keys

Alicia Keys' duet with Maroon 5 may have held our attention, but her black Azzedine Alaia gown with "strategic cutouts" was borrrrrring.

  • Katy Perry

Katy Perry -- who actually did end up showing up with BF John Mayer -- got tongues wagging with this boobalicious attempt at a retro look from Gucci. She said it was a look inspired by Priscilla Presley in the '70s, which sounds cool, but it just ... didn't ... work.

  • Beyonce

Another love it-or-hate it moment for many, I dug Beyonce's jumpsuit by Osman Yousefzada, a young British designer (whose parents are from Afghanistan) who graduated from Central Saint Martins and began his own label in September 2005. Thought it was different and chic.

  • Adele

Love that Adele loves these retro-ish A-line dresses so much, because I really want to start seeing them be much more mainstream ... BUT this red carpet bag-patterned one from Valentino was a NIGHTMARE. Heinous. Sorry. It's true.

  • Taylor Swift

Before opening the Grammys, Taylor Swift hit the red carpet in this Grecian goddess gown from J. Mendel. While not my favorite by far -- too vanilla and too similar to her recent looks -- it was undeniably one of the white hottest dresses of the night.

  • Jennifer Lopez

UGH. I honestly cannot decide if I love this (because it's brilliant and we just don't know it yet?!) or loathe it completely (because it kinda looks like a screwed-up swimsuit cover-up!). Either way, in this love it-or-hate it Anthony Vaccarello gown, JLo was NOT kiddin' around last night! Oh, and regardless how you feel about the dress, the shoes ... the shoes!
