emma stone w magazineIf you haven't heard the buzz about W magazine's movie issue with cover girl Emma Stone, you've been living under a rock slash have a life. But it's something worth taking a moment to look at because this issue, in my opinion, has some of the best photos of celebrities ever taken. The pictures show 33 of this year's brightest stars and are like none you've ever seen before. The low-tech, single-source, hard-edge flash we've seen used time and time again in Terry Richardson photos is utilized here by photographer Juergen Teller and makes stars like Kristen Stewart, Naomi Watts, and Nicole Kidman look like scared yet strong, accessible, makeup-free humans.

Did I mention I love it? Because I love it I love it I love it.

There's something about the photos that make these three women seem so vulnerable but in control. Take Kristen Stewart. Her hair looks greasy, her face and skin tone look tired and gray, yet her gorgeous leather Isabel Marant dress and that wonderfully beguiling does-she-have-the-flu or is-she-flirting smirk is perfection on a platter.

And Naomi Watts. She's 44, but in this photo she could pass for 20. The white Emilio Pucci halter gown drapes over and cuts her body into lovely little sections of muscle and skin. It's alluring. It's what a beauty shot should be.

Nicole Kidman's shot is also appealing and charming. Kidman, who's had more than, shall we say, her fair share of facial fillers, is far enough away from the lens that her natural beauty still shines through. In a black, silk, Blumarine gown, she seems to light up the dingy motel all by herself. It's gorgeous.

The rest of the photos are special, too, but these three really stood out. It's spreads like these that make me fall in love with beauty and style all over again.

What did you think?
