Anne Hathaway killed it last night at the Critics' Choice Awards in a slinky, sexy, shimmery Oscar de la Renta gown. Gadzooks, she looked great. Not only did this dress the perfectly complement her delicate frame and alabaster skin, it perfectly complemented her mom hair. That's right, I went there. Anne Hathaway has mom hair.
Look, I didn't coin the term, and I'm not using it in a derogatory way, being that I'm a mom myself. Buuut there are certain hairstyles that fall under the "mom hair" umbrella -- and Anne's is among them. If you google "mom hair", typically you'll find images of shorter hair. Sometimes the styles have layers and side bangs. Sometimes they're Kate Gosselin-y. Sometimes they're just pixie-ish like Anne's -- which is super cute. But still, mom hair. (Mom hair with pizazz?)
Anyway, the reason I started talking about Anne's dress last night and then eloquently dove-tailed into her hair is because the two just went together. When you have hair that's short like Anne's, clean, simple lines and minimal jewelry are the way to go. I think her choice to eschew all jewelry, save for one simple bracelet and her engagement ring, was so chic. The focus was on her lovely frame, her face, and of course, that balls-to-the-wall dress.
So, if you happened to be among the women who chopped their hair after having kids, good news: Minimal jewelry is in with it! Why is that good news? Because your little ones won't have any earrings or necklaces to pull -- and you can say it's in the name of fashion!
