World's Most Uncomfortable Shoes Will Make You Cringe (VIDEO)

Say What!? 26

Shoes

We all have a pair of shoes that are uncomfortable, right? And if you're like me and love stilettos, you probably also have a pair or two in the back of your closet that are absolutely crippling.

But trust me- you've got nothing on these shoes!

Created as a collaboration between artist Leanie van der Vyver and Dutch shoe designer René van den Berg, these shoes get my vote as the ugliest- and most uncomfortable- shoes of all time!

And wait till you see the video of a model trying to walk in them. Check it out after the jump!

W.T.H.

As crazy as this video is, you can't NOT look, right?

Yahoo! Shine actually contacted Leanie van der Vyver about her artistic creation, called "Scary Beautiful." Here's what she told them:

Beauty is currently at an all time climax, allowing this project to explore what lies beyond perfection. Scary Beautiful challenges current beauty ideals by inflicting an unexpected new beauty standard.

Even stranger, Yahoo! Shine goes on to report that these shoes actually won a design prize at Gerrit Rietveld Academie, where jury members had this to say:

The jury applauds the way aesthetics, ergonomics and prosthesis merge into an awkward choreography.

Um. YEAH. That's some awkward choreography, all right!

Of course, there's only one woman really suited to wear these shoes, and that's Lady Gaga, right? Well, Van der Vyver admits Gaga's production studio did request a pair, but she does not know if Gaga actually wore these shoes on any upcoming videos. We'll just have to wait and see.

In the meantime, though, don't expect to see these on sale at Payless any time soon!

What do you think of these shoes? Are they the ugliest shoes of all time?

Hey these have to win! Why do women put themselves through this!

Yes. The poor model looks like a duck walking in them.

Why...? For the love of God.. WHY?!?!?!?

Hmmm. I don't think they're atractive, but I do think they are interesting. They are so far from typical shoe design, I woudn't really even call them shoes. More like shin stilts.

They are ugly but they don't look like the most uncomfortable shoes ever. Awkward to walk in but they look pretty supportive, more so that a lot of high heels you do see at places like Payless.

This article is kind of infuriating. The readers are led to believe that these are ACTUAL shoes for purchase and encourage them to have a discussion about "are these THE UGLIEST shoes? teehee!" rather than actually expounding on why these shoes were made. They were part of van der Vyver's thesis where she proposed that beauty has reached its apex and that people have the power to manipulate beauty in their supposed favor. They won a design prize for the design's commentary on society.

Maybe the readers would want to have a discussion about beauty and society and bowing in unfathomable ways at the altar of social norms and social standards. Or maybe my hopes are too high. Colin asks a good question. Why do women put themselves through "this" and, after having children, have your concepts of beauty changed?

Completely unfair that we didn't get to see how she got her foot into the second shoe once she had the first one done and buckled.  No way she did it on her own without a bar or chair or person to hold onto.

As for the walking - she looks like she needs to poop and is trying to make it to the bathroom.  But points for not showing any expression on her face the whole time.  Guess that was her instruction but I probably couldn't have supressed a grimace if I was trying to lurch across the room in those things.

Oh I'm not missing the point, I get the point loud and clear.  The point is that someone wants to find what's beyond beautiful by going outside of the box.  But this is not beautiful, or beyond beautiful, it's not even related to beautiful in any way.  It's a ridiculous waste of time and energy by "artists" who can't seem to find anything better to do.

Hey pretentious a-holes... there are people starving in this world.  If you have THIS much time on your hands, go feed a starving child in Africa---THAT is beautiful.
