Brad Pitt's Chanel No. 5 Ad Is Hilariously Melodramatic, but Was It Meant to Be Funny? (VIDEO)

brad pitt chanel no 5Here's what I have to say about Brad Pitt's debut ad for Chanel No. 5: Saturday Night Live is gonna have a field day with this one! Because honestly -- and I mean no offense here, being a dyed-in-the-wool Pitt fan -- for the entire span of this 30-second clip, I was convinced it had to be some kind of joke. Like, Omg, this is the funniest thing I've seen Brad Pitt do in ages -- his comedic genius is totally underrated -- can't wait for the punchline! Wait, why wasn't there a punchline?

I mean, it's true that fragrance campaigns are known for taking themselves waaaay too seriously but Pitt isn't pretentious enough to pull off dialogue this melodramatic. It's like watching Brad Pitt try to keep a straight face while doing a dramatic reading from 50 Shades of Grey.

It starts off sappy -- "This is not a journey ... every journey ends, but we go on" -- and gets way, way worse. By the time he gets to the final few words ("my luck ... my fate ... my fortune"), he looks suspiciously ready to hurl. Either that, or collapse on the floor in a fit of uncontrollable laughter. I just can't tell which.

You really, really need to see this. Trust me:

Hey, I know! Brad must've lost a bet. This is totally the kind of punishment Angelina Jolie would come up with.

Do you think Brad Pitt's Chanel No. 5 commercial is hilarious?
