13 Meaningful Tattoos Parents Got to Honor Their Kids (PHOTOS)

Awww! 145

tattoo for sonPeople get tattoos for all sorts of reasons -- some of those reasons are awesome and others are mistakes that end up covered up by more ink or an expensive and painful trip to get laser removal. Getting some ink to honor your kid, however, is absolutely a forever kind of thing. Essentially risk-free unless you end up with an evil little bugger in which case your tattoo will serve to remind you of a time you had a little sweet child o'mine.

I gathered up some dads and moms with tattoos who went under the needle to get something to honor their child. Some are sweet and simple, some intricate, all symbolic.

Tim is a father to two boys. He got these blocks for his son Aidan. And he also got a train with his son Samuel's name spelled out in the cars. Check out that photo and more parents with tattoos ....

Tiffany has her little peas in a pod.

This symbol is a twist on Andrea's son Tyler's horoscope sign -- Capricorn -- which he shares with his mom. Tyler's middle name Frederick is also Andrea's dad's name, who passed away when she was 13. Very meaningful.

Ginger has three hearts for the three babies who own hers.

Joye's butterflies are for her kids. The dragonfly is for her husband.

How sweet that the kids can see their little handprint on dad Art's arm -- it's like they will always be daddy's little girl to him.

Christina got this for her son Mikael and it's tribal for "first born."

And this one is for her younger son Jaiden who is a Taurus.

Below is the tattoo my husband got for our son, Hunter Johan. It's a banner that wraps around to show the tattoo he got for our daughter, Penelope Jolene.

The Day of the Dead skull lady is for me. The top tattoo is his last name and family crest. It's what he calls the family arm.

This is on my forearm. H in a designed heart for Hunter.

And P on the other side of the same forearm for Penelope.

Do you have a tattoo for your kid? Would you get one?

I have a cluster of snowflakes with the words "little wonders" for my son. The words are the title of a Rob Thomas song that we played at our wedding, and I was also pregnant with my son when we got married. The snowflakes are because it started snowing heavily the afternoon he was born and I think snowflakes are beautiful.

I have a yin yang with sun on one side, moon on the other. My daughters share the same birthday so I have a scorpio on one side and an Aries symbol on the other for my son and I. I have across my shoulders from a letter my dad wrote before he died "I'll love you til the day I die."

And also, L and W (Little Wonders) are my son's initials. Forgot to mention that :)

On my back I have a mermaid cradling her baby for my daughter. She loves to swim and has an obsession with mermaids. I did too when I was a little girl so I thought it would be a fitting piece. I am deathly afraid of needles but for my baby I'd do anything :-)

My husband and I met in auto mechanics in high school, 12 years ago. When I was pregnant with our youngest I woke up in the middle with my idea and immediately drew it out. Hubs swore we'd never get eachothers names done but once he saw what I'd drawn he added his thoughts and after she was born we ended up bith getting it done. We have three wrenches hanging on a bolt. Each wrench has one kids name where the brand namw of tge wrench would be and their birthdays where the size goes like 7/25. On the bolt head we have our initials together and the marking for noncorrosive used by manufacturers for bolt specs. People of all kinds stop and talk about our tattoo when they see it! Even the artist said it was truly original and he enjoyed seeing something fresh ;)

I have a Celtic knot heart that is a symbol for motherhood. There is a dot in the middle that represents my son. (You are supposed to put dots for your children in the heart). It is also shaded red which is a color that coincides with his zodiac sign. It's actually not done. I want more shading in yellow so that the red and yellow represent something he's wanted all his life and accomplished. The college he attends and will graduate from next year.
