Former Bachelorette Trista Sutter shocked fans this week when she admitted that she recently had plastic surgery. Yep, you heard me right. The biggest success story to every come out of The Bachelor or The Bachelorette went out and got herself an eye lift and a boob job.
I'll admit it, when I first heard that Trista had gotten a little work done, my first reaction was to roll my eyes and sigh and assume that she was just another 39-year-old woman who wasn't happy that she was approaching 40 and resorted to plastic surgery in an effort to look 21 again. I was all set to call her vain and self-absorbed, but then I heard her reasons for going under the knife and my opinion totally changed. Actually, now I think I love her even more.
Trista told Life & Style magazine:
After nursing both my kids for a year each, my boobs were deflated. And I had a droopy eye. It was something that I noticed in every picture I've ever taken. ... I realized that the surgery was something I had to do for myself, just for my own self-confidence and to feel good again about being in bathing suits and being intimate with my husband.
Can I get a huge AMEN for her honesty about not being satisfied with her body after having kids? Because I don't care who you are or how comfortable you think you are in your own skin -- all of us having something we aren't thrilled with after going through pregnancy, nursing, and all of the other unexpected strains being a mom puts on your body.
So many women turn to plastic surgery procedures in an effort to alter their appearance and make themselves look like someone they're not. Trista, on the other hand, just wanted to look and feel like herself again -- which is something all moms want. It can be such a struggle to maintain our identities when we're constantly trying to take care of other people, and sometimes we get knocked right off the priority list.
In Trista's case, she had the plastic surgery to improve her self confidence, not drastically change her overall appearance. And that's why she should be applauded for taking care of her self esteem and not worrying about people trying to pick apart her decision or criticize her for it.
(Bravo, Trista. Bravo.)
Have you had any plastic surgery? Would you consider it?
