Gwen Stefani's Views on Makeup Will Have You Running to Sephora (VIDEO)
I've always sort of admired women who throw on a few coats of mascara and a couple of strokes of powder when they're just hanging out at home. They seem so chic. And I'm, like, the polar opposite. Typically, I don't even "throw on a pair of jeans" when I'm loafing around the house (sweatpants or bust!). It's not that I don't like enhancing my appearance with a little Dior Show and Bare Escentuals. It's that I'm super lazy. And I hate taking off makeup. (I'm not lazy about taking off makeup, though. Going to sleep with bronzer and eyeliner smeared all over my face? No, no, no. Not an option.) Anyway, the reason I bring up wearing makeup when you're "not really doing anything" is the reason people always bring up wearing makeup when they're "not really doing anything": Gwen Stefani.
In a recent interview with Bazaar, Gwen, not surprisingly, confessed that she has a hot and heavy love affair with makeup, saying: "I’ve always been a girl who loves to dress up. I already put my makeup on twice today: I put it on to take my kid to school, and then I went home, washed my face, and put it on again to have lunch with you. I like to make my husband like me more, and he likes it when I’m wearing makeup."
Wearing makeup for your husband -- and just your husband? What a novel idea. I mean, I'll definitely put m'face on if my husband and I are going out to dinner or whatever, but honestly, it rarely crosses my mind to, like, do a cat eye when it's just the two of us sitting around watching House Hunters International. But maybe I should -- not just because I like looking semi-attractive for him, but because we just had a kid and we never really go out anymore. So really, when you do the math, I pretty much never wear makeup these days. And for as much of a pain in the ass it can be to take off at the end of the day, it is fun, and it definitely makes me feel, I dunno, pretty?
So, I'm gonna make like Gwen Stefani this weekend -- really, I am! I'm going to apply some of that ridiculously expensive mascara I own and rarely use, and maybe even throw on some of that stuff that makes my cheekbones look dewy. But first I need to get a really efficient makeup remover.
