kate middletonOne of the benefits to having the 2012 Olympics in London is we're getting to see a lot of Kate Middleton. Since the start of the Summer Games, Duchess Catherine, and of course that handsome lad she's married to, have been spotted showing their support for all things British, like "footie" and David Beckham. And it's been brilliant.

Since Catherine and the royals have been putting in so much time at the Olympics, though, I was kind of surprised to see that she found time to squeeze in a non-sporting event.

But what I was most surprised about was ... what she did with her hair.

Kate Middleton, owner of, arguably, the shiniest tresses in all of the UK, wore her hair up last night as she walked the pink carpet outside of the Royal Academy of Arts. Did she look gorgeous? Of course! But, without her signature long locks hanging below her royal shoulders, something almost seemed ... off.

While it was nice to see HRH in a hairstyle different from how she normally wears it, I have to admit, I kind of missed her long hair. It's sort of become her trademark, and the de facto British mascot: A pile of long, blindingly-shiny hair.

That said, though, I'm glad she wore it up. She threw us for a bit of a loop, and we got to miss her usual hairstyle. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. Fonder of Kate's hair.
