5 Ways Moms Can Fight Cellulite Without Spending Too Much Cash

by Mary Fischer on July 9, 2012 at 3:50 PM

wacoal cellulite pantIn what might be some of the best beauty news ever for women, researchers may have finally found a way to get rid of stubborn cellulite once and for all. The new treatment, called Cellulaze, uses lasers to melt fat under the skin, and at the same time cut the septae of the skin, which are the connective fibers that make cellulite appear much worse.

Making unsightly cellulite disappear is definitely on the wish list of pretty much every mom I know, myself included. There's nothing worse than putting on a bathing suit and concluding that your thighs and butt somewhat resemble the exterior of a golf ball -- so most of us are willing to try pretty much anything to smooth out our skin and put an end to the jiggly bits.

But while some doctors are calling Cellulaze "nothing short of remarkable," a single treatment can cost between $2,500 and $7,500. And since most of us aren't fortunate enough to have that much extra cash lying around to spend on our vanity, we have to either learn to accept our bodies the way they are and live with our cellulite forever -- or resort to cheaper methods to try and rid ourselves of looking like cottage cheese.

There are quite a few economical solutions to lessening the appearance of pesky cellulite -- at least temporarily.

1. Get a tan -- Ok, so this approach requires exposing your skin to the sun's rays, but I think most moms would agree that cellulite is much less noticeable when you've got a little bit of color going on. Wear your sunscreen to make sure you don't burn, but definitely hit the beach or pool a few times this summer to help hide your lumps and bumps.

2. Yoga -- Believe it or not, there are some people who argue that practicing yoga helps release fluid and toxins, which helps diminish the appearance of cellulite. If nothing else, you'll come out of your sessions more relaxed, so maybe you won't care about the bumps as much?

3. Anti-cellulite creams -- These are a dime a dozen right now and you can pretty much find them anywhere. And while there isn't a magic potion you can rub on and wake up cellulite-free, the creams containing caffeine do seem to make it less noticeable as long as you apply it every single day.

4. Herbal body wraps -- Back when I was in college, I had a few herbal body wraps done, and I was shocked when the "craters" on the sides of my thighs seemed to almost disappear after my sessions. Of course, the huge dimples returned as soon as I ate anything containing sodium, but the wraps are still a quick solution if you're heading on vacation and want to rock your bikini.

5. Cellulite-fighting shapewear -- I guess it was only a matter of time before someone made a garment that supposedly helps with cellulite when worn under clothing. And spending a little extra money on shapewear is definitely worth a shot versus shelling out thousands for the lasers.

Have you found anything else that helps fight cellulite?

I've tried all these. Until I broke down and went to a cosmetic surgeon.
He told me that, of course I have fat, but I don't actually have cellulite. He said its my skin, after weight loss, kind of bunching on some streachmarks.
So ladies, here's my tip: make sure you actually have cellulite before trying to rid yourself of it! I got a skin toning cream, and put it on immediately before putting on some spanx in the morning. I wear it all day while my SO is at work, and take it off before he gets home. *its my secret... shhh!* lol
It worked to improve my legs in 2 weeks!

Lucerita- actually, that only works to a point, as cellulite can be a heredity issue. You can be a skinny bean pole, with 1%body fat, and still have ass dimples.

I can think of about 150 things right now that are worse than seeing my golf ball thighs in a bathing suit. For me, one dollar and one minute are too much to devote to whether people see my cellulite or not. I have it, and I can't help but think "so what?"

I kinda agree with Sherry. Eat right and exercise, since those things are good for your health and your looks, and then forget about it and enjoy the beach.

If you exercise to a sweat everyday, cut out the soda's, drink herbal teas (lemon is amazing for almost everything), you can work the cellulite off. Most people just don't want to take the effort to workout. lol I don't! But it's one of the easiest steps to take.... and while you're at it, you can lean up the body and feel better, while accomplishing making your body look better... and maybe getting a tan, in a swimsuit, wont be so horrible :)

Get out and walk.  I did that and after a few months could really see a difference.  For some years I haven't . .  guess it's time to get out the walking shoes.

Unfortunately cellulite is mostly genetic. If you are at a healthy weight and exercise about once a week that's probably as good as it gets as far as cellulite is concerned. I'm in my 20s, I work out 5 times a week and I walk between 8 and 12miles a day for work and still manage to have some cellulite. Being happy with yourself doesn't cost much, but trying to constantly change does.

I'm fighting it by trying to prevent it. I exercise and eat healthy, hopefully I'm delaying it from happening. I'm quite interested in those herbal wraps though.
