5 Amazing Maxi Skirts You Must Try On Now (PHOTOS)

maxi skirtYou know what every fashionista needs in her closet right now? A maxi skirt. Seriously ladies, they're like the style staple of the summer, so go out and buy one like ... TODAY.

I love to slip into a maxi for any occasion because they're so easily dressed up or down for any event -- and soooo comfortable! So mamas, listen up: maxis pass the test when it comes to chasing your tot around all day. Hoorah!

But you want to hear the real reason I die for this flowy find? It's flattering on every figure! It's like the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants .... but for skirts, people.

I'm a little self conscious of my legs so I'm always looking for alternatives to shorts. I prefer the loose look, especially as a heat wave hits. And maxis help to elongate the leg, making you look leaner and they help accentuate the positive, like a teeny waist.

Since you're probably all OMG, I'm going to the mall right now, here are five maxi skirt styles to shop for:

What's your summer style staple?

No breeze on my legs and sweaty thighs squishing together? Not my idea of a cool summer outfit.

Stupid slide show is NOT a slide show when the ENTIRE page has to reload for each picture!

um, not everybody can wear this skirt. At 5' tall, this is just going to make me look like a short, squatty, elf. And I second the squishy thighs comment!LOL

As much as I'd love to rock a Maxi skirt, I just don't think this fashion trend works for the vertically challenged. I'm 5'2" and weigh about 100 lbs but these skirts always make me look like a Christmas ham.

@TorranceMom lol! Agree! You have to be a long, stick-like body to work this look. I have hips so that horizontal striped one would be traumatic and the others would just make me look, well, like a fat ass.

I agree with the others, I don't understand why so many people think that maxi skirts are "figure flattering", I honestly think they are not very forgiving and tend to make you look like your wearing the proverbial "gunny sack" if you are bottom heavy at all. I tend to prefer the tiered ones that hug the hips a bit more, and get wider at every tier, so they do hug my hips a bit more, and give me a bit of shape, otherwise, that whole straight down look just makes me look, for want of a better word, fat.

Also, as others have said, they are always way too long for me, and I'm not even that short, I'm 5'5, I always have to hem them up, otherwise they are dragging on the ground, I like mine a couple inches above my ankles at least, maybe even 3-4. I don't however have a problem with sweaty thighs rubbing together, and I do find them to be a nice choice, with a lacy tank top, especially on summer evenings when you want to look pretty but still be comfy :)

I've started wearing bike shorts under my skirts to avoid the thigh issue. Since I don't wear shorts, I do like this as an alternative to jeans in 100+ degree heat.
