Can y'all handle a biiiig secret? Well okay, here goes: in the summer I (gulp) don't spend a dime highlighting my hair.
Gasp! Frenzy! Panic!
Since the summer is jam packed with getaways, vacations, backyard BBQs, and festivals, I needed to cut back somewhere -- and my locks were the first to feel the pinch. So, I crawled the Internet for budget-friendly ways to lighten up my 'do.
All you need are a few kitchen staples, the sun, and your cutest swimsuit. Check out these four tips for highlighting your hair without a pricey trip to the salon.

Both chlorine and lemon juice are really drying for your hair... plus chlorine can give you a green tinge if you're blonde. I'm blonde and try to get the sun to lighten it a bit in the summer... my hairdresser always says that letting wet hair dry in the sun is just as good as lemon juice, and less drying... the cuticle is more open on wet hair and lets the sun penetrate more. At the cottage I always let my hair dry in the sun, and it's noticeably lighter by the end of the summer.
