In my continuing effort to educate the public on the important topic of SUMMER BRAIDS, today I'm going to show you how to get this elegant updo, commonly known as The Milkmaid.
This looks like one of your harder hairdos, but I'm here to tell you that you can get the look in under five minutes. Want to see how?
Read on!
Once again, I had my hairstylist Ellen at Salon Nfuse give me a tutorial, which my friend Chelsea helpfully videotaped. We went ahead and did the braids first to save you some boring video watching time -- just take note that the first thing you'll do is put your hair into two braids, starting about where you would if you were going for Pippi Longstocking braids. You'll see what I'm talking about at the start of this video:
This is a look favored by celebrities like Ashley and Mary Kate Olsen and Kate Bosworth, and I can see why.
So easy!
So fast!
If you have medium to long hair, you've got to try the look this summer!
Will you do it?

I want to know how you got that perfect nude lip...please tell me!
I disagree with PRIMA...braids are in my life on a nearly everyday basis.
Braids are awesome, they look polished enough for work and are easy to do.
My wife wears braids most days, she says that they keep her hair out of her face and don't hurt the tender place on her head that is the legacy of her surgery.
I wish I could braid my hair. It's long enough for a ponytail, but not long enough for braids that don't smack me in the face every time I turn suddenly or one long braid in the back.
I love braids but this just makes you look older! (i think you are gorgeous so i'm not trying to to be mean) I think the only way to really pull this off and not look old is to do it slightly messy with some tendrils hanging down. all neat and tight just looks... old.
Not for me but waaaaaaay cute on my daughter. Thanks!
