Matthew McConaughey’s Wife Camila Wore a Custom Lace Wedding Dress & We’re Underwhelmed

by Emily Abbate on June 13, 2012 at 12:32 PM

Camila Alves & Matthew McConaughey wedding photosI don't know what it is, but I always forget about Camila Alves. You know who she is, don'tcha? The lucky woman who married hotty hot hottiest Matthew McConaughey over the weekend? You know, the one he has two children, Levi and Vida, with? I'm taken aback by how amazingly gorgeous she is every single time I see a picture of her by Matty's side. Let me tell ya somethin', too, their wedding day was no exception.

The first photos from their big day are in this week's People, and the whole ceremony and celebration look so adorably personal and quaint. But, I know what you really wanna talk about -- the dress. Camila wore a custom designed long-sleeve lace gown from one of her favorite Brazilian designers.

It's beautiful for sure. But I've gotta ask: Would you ever get your dress custom designed? And if so, is THIS Kate Middleton look-alike what you'd want?

There are loads of pros to designing your own dress. The thing will most definitely fit like a glove, and you can pick and choose aspects from all the different dresses you've ever seen and combine them in one gown. Although, knowing me -- I'd want way too many things in the same dress and none of them would go together.

But hello, when I hear the word custom -- I think one thing: $$$$. I mean good for Camila. Matty and her, they have that sort of dough to shell out for a lavish affair involving gorgeousness like that. Something tells me once my big day comes around, though, I'll be on the hunt for a "perfect gown" that already exists, even if part of the reason it's "perfect" is because of the price tag.

Nevertheless, Camila, she did it right. The dress is cute, and it isn't too busy. Oh, and if you're into the whole long-sleeve lace look a la Kate, then it's spot-on. Kudos to the happy couple!

What do you think about Camila's custom-designed gown? Would you ever design your gown from scratch?

Beautiful gown, and she looks so lovely. It is amazing how much more elegant and "grown up" women look when they wear a classic, slightly covered up wedding dress. (Call me retro.) I found a lovely dress off the rack, but would have had one made if I could have afforded it!

Just because a bride chooses a modest, sleeved gown doesnt mean its underwhelming. I think its pretty refreshing to see a bride in a simple white gown...and I dont think it looks like Kates dress...other than the sleeve part...

What in the hell is up with the stir and criticizing what a bride wore for HER wedding day? Was it your wedding? Did you wear the dress? No? Then shut the hell up. Obviously she loved it and felt beautiful in it, what is so wrong with that? Nothing.

It's a gorgeous dress. Refreshing to see someone wearing a dress that is not strapless, getting sooooooo sick of this trend. I like traditional, lacy dresses. Got married in one, myself.

And even though I feel like the market has been oversaturated with the strapless thing, I wouldn't attack a bride for choosing one. Or any other gown that she wants to choose. It's HER day, she can wear what she wants.

Long-sleeved lace gowns were around WAY before Kate Middleton wore one. Stop beating that dead horse.

Been helping a friend find her 'perfect' dress, and she's having a devil of a time. She doesn't want strapless, and that seems to be all that's available. Yeah, we find one here and one there with sleeves, but the overwhelming majority are boob-enhancing, shoulder-baring, over-sexy gowns. She doesn't want "sexy", she wants "her" - and that means being modest and covering up some of her skin.

Thank heavens people like Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge (she's not "Kate Middleton" anymore - did you keep your maiden name when you married?) and Camilla Alves are showing the world that modest can be just as beautiful, and "sexy" is meant to be kept between the couple, not flaunted to the world.

...didn't you write a really mean spirited article about Drew Barrymore's wedding dress last week? I think it's incredible nasty to bitch about another bride's dress. It was to HER taste, not yours.
