Need a dress for a fancy ocassion, but don't want to spend a ton of money on something you might only wear once? Rent one!
There's a shop in NYC called Ilus that rents out designer dresses for $60 and up. But for those of you outside NYC, there's an online spot where you can rent a designer dress for cheap.
It's called Rent Me a Handbag, and yes, they have bags, but also dresses and shoes.
And you may have heard of Bag, Borrow, or Steal made famous by Sex and the City that leases out handbags, jewelry, and watches.
An anonymous CafeMom asked if there were any mommy fashionistas out there who would rent a designer dress.
Albi1623 says if its an expensive dress and looks amazing, to go for it!
prettylob1 says no. But she also wouldn't buy a top designer dress because most times you only
wear it once. She says you can always find a dress with similar style
that is in your budget. And most people wouldn't even know the difference
anyway.
IGotLuckyInKy says she would totally do it. Designer dresses are meant to be worn once...so why not rent so it doesn't take up space in your closet.
What about you? Would you ever rent a designer dress or handbag?

Yes. I actually rented the last few formal/semi formal dresses I wore in high school. My BF at the time was from another school ( so two schools worth of dances to go to) and he was one yr behind me so I was out of high school before his senior prom and last military ball. So I rent dresses ( and borrowed) rather than bought ! It was awesome! I would do it again now if i had an event to go to. . .
I do not think that I would rent... I have bought (handbags) what I have and got it at a great price from the outlet stores.... I do not know if it is cheaper to rent or buy... maybe rent.. I love fashion and may not want to return it... I rather buy from the outlets.
My daughter rented a dress from a tuxedo shop and it was much cheaper. You can also rent Bridesmaid dresses which is so much cheaper and you don't have to keep the ugly things for ever!
