Maybe Emma Stone dyed her hair blonde because she was sick of her hair clashing with red dresses. The 23-year-old star was on the Tonight Show With Jay Leno last night talking about Spider-Man and what not, but all I could really focus on was her outfit. Emma's red leather Monique Lhuillier frock was all-consuming. From the form-fitting top to the flowy skirt, I was baffled by its heinousness and, unfortunately, its familiarity.
DESPITE IT BEING SUMMER, it looks like a leather dress trend is emerging right before our wide, disbelieving eyes.
When two A-listers wear the same thing within three days of one another, you gotta assume that the trend has some legs. First Jennifer Aniston at the MTV movie awards, and now Emma on Leno. Well, that's not exactly fair. The first crazy person to jump on the leather dress bandwagon was Evan Rachel Wood. She wore head to toe animal skin in October, a full nine months before Jen and Em. Hats off to Evan, I guess?
The leather dress trend has been slowly creeping up on us -- stars like Lindsay Lohan and Blake Lively have worn them -- but it hasn't really taken hold ... 'til now. It's the proximity of the leather dress wearing offenses by Jen and Emma that have me concerned that we'll be seeing more of this.
And lest you think I'm anti-leather dresses for the moral reason of animal cruelty, let me state for the record that I am against them for one reason and one reason only: Sweat.
I believe a dress should make you look hot figuratively, not literally. I can't help but think of pools of under-boob perspiration when I look at anyone in a leather dress, and that's not a good thing.
If a celeb wears a leather dress this weekend, we're screwed. Three in a week and we're done -- that means it's officially become a trend and it's going to be shoved down our throats no matter how uncomfortable the thought of 90-degree heat and wearing an animal carcass makes us feel.
Somebody get me a goddamn fan already.
Agree or disagree: Leather dresses are the worst.
