10 Things Moms Should Never Be Caught Wearing (PHOTOS)

by Mary Fischer on May 17, 2012 at 2:59 PM

britney spears jason trawickOk, I have to admit, when I saw Britney Spears wearing a slinky mini dress earlier this week not once, but twice, I couldn't resist rolling my eyes and thinking, "Now that's something that no mom should EVER wear." I mean, the dress she wore in this particular photo was so short that her fiance, Jason Trawick, actually had to place his hand on her thigh so her "junk" wouldn't fall out of the side. And if you're worried about your dress showing off part of your nether regions? Yeah -- it's probably too short. Mini dresses look pretty risque on anyone, but on moms they're just unacceptable.

And ridiculously short dresses are just one thing at the top of a list of 10 things moms need to quit trying to pull off once and for all. (Give it up already, ladies.)

Check out the photos below to see what else qualifies as a major fashion faux pas.

Is there a particular outfit that makes you cringe when you see a mom wearing it?

Eh...some of these I agree with, some I dont... But I do love me a pair of nice capri leggings and a cute short dress/tunic now that I'm packin a 6 month bump :-p

I live in FL, I wear mini dresses, halter tops, tube tops, daisy dukes, you get the drift. It has nothing to do with being a good parent, and certainly doesnt make me cringe when I see it. Really, nothing makes me cringe when I see it, i admire people who have the couarage to wear what they want and work it.

God, what a prude you are! Most moms aren't 50 years old and saggy. Becoming a mother doesn't exempt you from any attire.
I may be a mother of 4, but screw you, I look good!
If I want to go out with the girls and wear a micro-mini skirt/dress, tough shit! I wear daisy dukes every summer, and they look good on me. I have great legs, and VERY LITTLE cellulite. As in, like, 1-2 dimples per leg.
Showing my tummy? Pft. Its summer. I'll do what I want. I have a perfectly flat belly.
If you got it, flaunt it. Don't listen to prudish bloggers.

I think that the notion birthing a child makes you unworthy of wearing certain clothes is ludicrous. Now, I think that many of these styles you shouldn't wear unless you have the body for it, or most people shouldn't wear period. I get the feeling that once you're a mom you should be slipping on a pair of mom jeans and a t-shirt.

argh with the slide shows again! :( i couldn't click through this one.

BUT - the article itself... sorry, but just because i became a mom doesn't mean my right to dress how i wanted was taken away. i remember my mom telling me something similar because i wore a shorter skirt to pick up my husband from the airport. she said "honey, you can't go out like that, you're a mother!" and i told her "but mom, looking this good is how i became a mother!" ;)

joking aside though, if you can pull it off, why not? as long as i don't have to see any of your lady bits or the like in public, then i don't really care.

Wow! This mom is conservative! Or maybe she just doesn't have the body it takes to rock some of these outfits?! Now some of these I agree with, but for things like shirts that show some midriff- have you seen the styles yet for this summer? Highwaisted bottoms with midriffs are totally in and jeggings I personally think rock. Short dresses for the club or a night out are fine, I think. I also live in Vegas and we are a bit more risque than some places. But for a lot of these things, there IS a time and a place for them in one's wardrobe! Perhaps just not when one is attending a playdate or doing active childcare.

While I would generally stay away from the micro minis and mini dresses and stripper heels simply for my own comfort. I don't wanna have to worry about my lady bits being out all the time. And as I have a hard time walking in regular heels I can't see myself in stripper heels. But if I woman looks good even if they are a moher why do they not get to show it off?

I'm with everyone else-this article stinks! If anything moms should be more willing to embrace their bodies because they know what they can do. We should be teaching young women to love themselves, not be so worried about what they look like.

I disagree with the author, I don't think there are outfits that moms just shouldn't wear. I think there are outfits that prolly shouldn't be worn while picking the kids up for school, or to the PTA meeting but jeeze, I don't remember them handing me a prudish "mom" uniform at the hospital when I was getting discharged after giving birth ;)

I'm sorry but being a mother did not mean that I suddenly became a prude. I'm still very young, extremely fit, and I'll wear whatever the hell looks good on me whether its daisy dukes in the summer, skinny jeans and leggings in the fall, and practically most of my shoes are heels (stilleto's) because they're comfortable, cute, and they don't bother me to wear them at all. Short dresses and mini-skirts are perfect for the nights out. And so long as I look respectable and can wrangle my son easily and comfortable if I need to, that's all that matters to me.
