‘Patriotic’ Ke$ha Wears the Flag on Her Face -- Sexy or Offensive?

keshaYou'll never guess who got down and dirty for V magazine's summer issue. Just kidding! You can totally guess. Yep! It's Ke$ha. The pop star whose catchy tunes just won't leave you alone has a multi-page spread in the venerable fashion publication, on stands May 10. Ke$ha's wearing face paint and ratty clothes in V, which is, like, no surprise, but because her makeup and wardrobe mimic the American flag ... that might ruffle a few feathers.

Flag fashion is controversial -- which I suppose was the whole point.

Ke$ha's got red, white, and blue all over her face, and for the fashion shoot, she was styled in a dress that looks like a gritty American flag that's been yellowed and dirtied from years of natural wear and tear on a pole over a Southern grocer, or on a Texas ranch, then, you know, dipped in sequins and glitter and sewed up to expose some leg.

Fashion and pop culture have used flag imagery forever -- Ke$ha's certainly not the first to wear the national emblem. Tina Fey, Lady Gaga and BeyonceCindy Crawford, and Kid Rock have all donned the stars and stripes at one point or another. And, if you ask me, they looked damn good doing it.

Flag fashion has been around for decades, and it's not going anywhere anytime soon. Some say it's patriotic, some say it's blasphemous, some say that they don't care, as long as it doesn't make them look fat. Wherever you fall on the spectrum, you can't deny the fact that it's attention grabbing. Union Jack and American flag outfits generally scream look at me! and sometimes, in fashion, attention's all you need to be considered a success.

God bless America.

What do you think of American flag fashion?
