10 Beauty Hacks That Save Every Woman Time (And Money)

by Jeanne Sager on May 3, 2012 at 1:38 PM

putting on makeupI was standing at the cash register of a certain well-known beauty store (ahem, rhymes with Ignore-a) a few weeks ago when I got the total. Ouch! For that I could outfit a small child for a week.

Researchers have found that women tend to spend more on their beauty products than they do on their health. I'm obviously as guilty as any of them, but I've decided that's enough. No more killing my wallet with beauty products. I have embraced the world of DIY, or beauty hacks. And here are some of the best out there ... they'll save you time in a pinch (you have no idea how much is hiding in your kitchen!) and, more importantly, money! Check out the 10 beauty hacks every woman needs to know!

OK, go ahead, add them here. What is your favorite beauty hack?

Makeup Remover Hack

Ran out of makeup remover? Don't go to bed with eyeshadow that will stain your pillow. Throw a little moisturizer on a Q-Tip, and it does the same thing. Bonus: you already know how your face will react. Other quick replacements? Olive oil or baby shampoo does the same job.

Do people actually use ALL of these, on ONE person? If I spent this amount of time and effort on "beauty" treatments, I would never leave the bathroom!

I'm with you on that one, 4mutts! Here's a money saving idea--don't wear makeup, like, at all! I haven't worn anything except moisturizer in about 6 years, and I'm still happily married with a 3 week old baby. The sky will not fall if you reject the "cosmetic-industrial complex" and embrace your natural looks, I promise you!

I've ALWAYS used hair conditioner as shave cream, it helps to mix in a couple drops of baby oil gel for extra moisture and shine :)

Love these ideas! Here's some more: save $$ by going "no poo"; skip shampoo and make a paste of baking soda and water. Takes a couple weeks for your hair's pH to balance out but it's worth it. Also, I use witch hazel as a toner, and tea tree oil will aid in curing many skin problems including acne, boils, and eczema.

Can we get tips for normal people that just wear the occasional cover up and mascara? I agree with 4mutts. Too much crap.

I'm curious if 99% of us even need all the lotions, moisturizers, face cream, and this stuff that isn't makeup.
I used to use a face cream, then realized that there was NO DIFFERENCE when the relatively expensive bottle was gone.

A good diet is supposed to help your skin, right? I've always been pretty healthy with my food, and I've never worn makeup except on special occasions. My skin is pretty, I'm pretty. Why bother?
I bet most of y'all are pretty without it too.

Iam an esthetician at a Well- Known Beauty Store an I have to promote the more "EXPENSIVE"(prestiage) line of products to clients , But at the end of the day It all starts on what you put inside your body as well as outside! I go to the other side of the store an get my products I pretty much do as everyone commented above I would rather spend my money else where when I know i will get same results on the other side of the store !!!
