There's Now Proof We Have a 'Bad Side' for Photos

good side vs bad sideWhen your face has a distinct good side and bad side, you gotta be quick on your feet. If someone whips out their camera, you have to be ready at a moment's notice to jump up and run screaming to the other side of the group, just so you can ensure that your good side is the one facing the lens. You'll need reflexes like a cat with the speed of a mongoose, but in the end, it'll pay off -- your good side will prevail.

Now for some reason, if you haven't spent hours on end analyzing your face in the mirror, and you're not sure if you have a bad side, let me gently break the bad news: you most certainly do. The right side of your face is your bad side, the left is your good side. Don't believe me? There's scientific proof that it's true.

Researchers from Wake Forest University presented observers with photos of people's profiles, and time and time again, the observers said they preferred the left side. The scientists hypothesize that the left side of the face shows more emotion, which is more aesthetically pleasing.

So what does this mean for you? Left is best, right is wrong. If you want to make sure you look your best in photos, you better show off your left side, and if that means darting to the other side of a large group to make sure you can comfortably and naturally display your left cheek, then so be it. A little effort before the pic is snapped will save you a lot of effort untagging Facebook photos later.

Only thing is, make sure you don't share this juicy little secret with too many of your friends. Otherwise, all our photos are going to look like we're on some sort of synchronized swim team, all smiling and facing the same direction.

Now repeat after me: Left is best, right is wrong.

Do you think you have a good side and a bad side?
