Because Sometimes You Want to Look Cute at the Gym

by Lindsay Ferrier on April 22, 2012 at 7:19 PM

lululemonSAHMs and WAHMs get a bad rap sometimes for wearing workout clothes all day long, but as a work-at-home mom myself, I can tell you that I often put on workout gear instead of regular clothes in the mornings, simply because getting DRESSED for the gym is half the battle!

If I'm dressed and ready to work out, I'm a lot more likely to actually GET MY YOU-KNOW-WHAT TO THE GYM. Make sense?

If you're like me, though, your workout wardrobe is nothing to write home about.

That's why I've scoped out some workout gear options that'll make you look good inside and outside the gym. Added bonus? They're not skin tight, so you won't have to feel self conscious about your figure while you're out and about!

Click through to see a few great options!

AthletaI'm a big fan of this Shiva Tee (Athleta, $42), which is pretty and practical.

Victoria's SecretThis Yoga Off-the-Shoulder tee (Victoria's Secret, $29.50) has a sexy neckline without being too revealing.

AthletaI love that this Tranquility Tank (Athleta, $49) is a lot more interesting than your average gym tank top.

APOne workout clothing secret of mine is to look at low-priced t-shirt shops for interesting options that cost a LOT less than the selections at some of the workout-themed shops. One great example is this Sutton Cowl T (GAP, $24.95). It would look great with a sport bra peeping out underneath!

AthletaFinally, I'm completely crazy about this Zenith Tank (Athleta, $59). The price? Not so much. But a girl can dream, right?

In addition to my advice to look for cute, lightweight knit tops from places like GAP, Forever 21, and Old Navy for your workout wear, I also can advise you to check out TJ Maxx and Marshalls. They generally have LOTS of fitness clothing options. There's really no reason to pay full-price for this stuff.

What do you wear to work out? Would having cute workout clothes help inspire you to do it more often?

I put on my workout gear first thing, too. That takes away my main excuse for it working out. I like to wear cute stuff so I don't look schlumpy.

The VS yoga shirt would be terrible for yoga. Anything baggy is just going to pool around your neck whenever you are in an inverted pose at all, even just a downward dog.

I favor yoga pants from Target, the $20 Champion ones, and cheap ribbed tanks from places like Old Navy. The only thing I splurge on is my sneakers because I am so hard on them. I just bought a new pair today, $95 but so worth it. Any time I've tried cheaper ones they've sucked, either crapping out after a month or two or just not offering the support I thought they would. Any thing less than $50 is a waste of money in my experience.

I like wearing cute workout clothes. Not like super designer, but fitted and bright colors.

These workout clothes are way too expensive for my taste! I wouldn't buy a $50 shirt just to be sweating in it when I go to the gym. Just give me a regular  t-shirt and some shorts to work out in.

I love my yoga pants! They are so perfect and I can add a cute top dress them up depending on what I have to do.
