How to Get Lips Like the ‘Real Housewives’ (PHOTOS)

Real HousewivesI love when seasons change. You know why? Well for starters, I'm SO much more a fan of summer clothes than winter sweaters. But also, I love mixing up my makeup routine. A whole gaggle of Real Housewives got together last night in New York City for a fancy schmancy Bravo event, and although it looks to me like heavy hitters like Teresa Giudice and Sonja Morgan were absent -- standout makeup was not.

Sure, I love me a smokey eye. But what REALLY caught my attention last night was Kandi Burruss' pink lips. Hello spring! I loved how she opted for something bright. In fact, just yesterday I picked out my first pink shade of lipstick, too.

First, the basics. According to Cosmopolitan, light-skinned women should choose a "sheer hue without any blue cast to it." In other words, keep things simple. You don't want to pick a shade for your pout that is going to overpower the rest of your face.

Some of my top picks:

Light skin lip sticksFrom left to right: Mac Lipstick in Angel, $14.50, NP Set Lipstick in Natural, $12, and Urban Decay Lipstick in Peroxide, $22

When it comes to darker skin tones, you have a whole lot more more freedom. Feeling bold? Then go for a bright hue. The warmer your skin tone, the more daring you can be.

Dark Skin LipsFrom left to right: Sephora Maniac Mat Long Wearing Lipstick in Bright Pink, $12, Revlon Just Bitten Lipstain in Victorian, $7.19, and CoverGirl Outlast All-Day Lipcolor in Dusty Rose, $8.49

Just be careful to play up one feature at a time. If you're going for a bold lip, don't pair it with a smokey eye. After a little bit of practice, you'll be looking pretty in pink in no time!

Are you a fan of pink lips?
