'Geek Chic' Outfits Are Both Smart & Hot -- Winning!

Back in high school, being called a "nerd" or a "geek" may have made you cringe, but for the past couple years in fashion, "Geek Chic" has been something everyone from J.Crew's Jenna Lyons to actress Drew Barrymore has worn.

Whether it's because Mark Zuckerberg made being a nerd cool (and loaded) or because we have finally noticed just how cute nerdy accessories can be, geek fashion is totally a "thing" right now.

It's also an easy -- and awesome -- look to get at home. With the right accessories and outfits, geek chic is easily achievable for any woman on any budget and runs the gamut from work appropriate to stay-at-home mom comfort quite nicely.

Here are a few ideas to get you started on the road to geek hot:

Glasses: Nerd glasses are all the rage and for good reason. They add an instant geek chic to any outfit, make you look smarter, and also look pretty darn cool, to boot. Some people who don't need glasses fake these, they are so cool, but you won't have to do that if you are like me and blind as a bat. A day without contacts that is also fashionable? Sign me up!

Utilitarian bag: This one is the Moop Paperback, a handmade beauty from Etsy-started company Moop. It's by far my favorite. I was lucky enough to receive a sample and this bag is the stuff dreams are made of. It's practically waterproof, so perfectly safe for all your favorite nerd accessories (iPad, iPod, iPhone, iYeah!), and is also versatile enough to be carried as both a tote and a cross-body bag. It's made of waxed canvas and could carry any fashionable nerd (or mama) through diaper changes and nights out.

Wingtip Brogue shoes: Borrowed from the boys, these J.Crew beauties will make you salivate. They have a tiny little heel, but generally speaking are the perfect, well-made mom shoe. They are comfortable and also cute. Mark Zuckerberg, eat your heart out!

Suspenders: Style it up with a great pair of suspenders. These are a rainbow pair ('80s style for the win!) but you could also go plain black with a tight white tank top and jeans and make quite a statement. A little nerdy, a little geeky, and a lot sexy, right?

Blazer: A blazer makes any outfit a little more fashion forward and also keeps you warm. The price is right on this one from Forever 21 and can be dressed up or down depending on your plans. Love!
